RanestRane the Shining

The Shining of RanestRane is the second album by this band released in 2011

I bought the dvd of the movie the Shining of Stanley Kubrick as I was getting curious after hearing the album of RanestRane. I wanted to explore what the meaning was behind this album.
Jack Nicholson is a great actor, the album is great, so what can go wrong? The answer: nothing!!

First I saw the movie without the music of the band. I knew by then the storyline. After watching the movie I decided to listen to the album and hopefully I could imagine without watching the movie where we were in the movie while listening. My fantasy is good enough and yes I learned to know the album.

And so 2 weeks later we played both movie and CD at the same time. By the first conversation in the movie you can put the music right there where it needs to be as you'll also hear the conversation on the album. And so RanestRane will lead you through the movie. I can only say it's very impressive! Goosebumps will take over as soon the song Il Labirinto will start. It's like a computergame. The music will lead you through the labirint together with the main characters Wendy and Danny. Absolutely impressive work!
The important thing RanestRane thought about, was, to also letting hear the sounds of happenings, like closing a door, the sound of writing on a old fashion typemachine, the telepone ringtone etc.etc. All that kind of sounds are from the movie and so you have the feeling that you are watching a new movie instead of the old goodie, but still with the same characters and the same story. It's the sound which brings you to an another level.

RanestRane can create the right emotional tune at the perfect time. You can hear by the voice of Daniele whether the movie is getting darker or brighter, you can hear by the guitarsound of Massimo together in combination with the synthesizer sound of Riccardo, whether the movie will be more creepy or happy. Together they fit for 200%

Cambiamento definitivo, the moment when the main character Jack is sitting at the bar of hotel's Gold Room and meets a ghostly bartender named Lloyd. Lloyd serves him bourbon while Jack complains about his marriage. Wendy is coming by, upset and talks about the terrible things little Danny told about, room 237.... The music is getting sensual and a bit erotic perhaps as well, perfect done, as you will see main charactar Jack kissing a naked woman in this room which will be soon be transformed in an old dead lady. Also here in this part you can feel the drama of the music at the perfect time.

Redrum, the most famous part of the movie when Jack breaks through the bathroom door and shouts 'Here's Johnny!! as Wendy screams in horror. You will hear the hacking of the axe and will recognize without seeing the movie exactly this scene. The drums are literally at the same time, also here you will be convinced of the fact that RanestRane have studied this film in detail.

In fuga nel labirinto, the great labirint feeling is coming back like part one in the beginning of the movie, I really adore these pieces of music. It's hard to explain what you will feel when you see these parts, and so I will post a link from RanestRane so you can discover your own feelings during this part!

Watch, and see what I mean ;-)

RanestRane The band

RanestRane, a Italian band which stepped into my life since October 2014 when they played as support act at the Steven Rothery gig in Copenhagen.

It was special, but thought it was hard to understand the lyrics as they only sang Italian.... but after a view minutes it was gone as their music was taking over my mind. As a musician myself I was impressed about their way of making music and performing. Very difficult parts of music without any form of struggle. A drummer with a clear warm lead vocal sang the most long and difficult parts while drumming... and not the easiest drumparts either! His name is Daniele Pomo, a passionated man which you can see in his performance.
And then we have Riccardo Romano, the keyboard player. I've never seen a keyboardist like him, so much energy, so much joy while playing, definitely at my top 5 greatest keyboard players since that day! He's not a man of 1000 notes in 2 seconds but passionated and in his own world of many influenses. Riccardo has a true talent to create the perfect sound and atmosphere at the right time. His way of playing makes the music of RanestRane very interesting as they play music based on movies. The movie can be seen at the same time while they are playing and so you will get leaded through the movie with the most amazing sounds. You will travel with your own feelings due the music, through the movie. RanestRane is calling it: Cineconcerto
The guitar player, Massimo Pomo is not a typical guitar player. He has the talent to not be overdone with his guitar, but just enough! This is really impressive as it is hard to be 'calm' as a guitarist. Allthough for many guitarists. Massimo has a Floydian warm sound, and his way of playing makes it perfect together with the sounds of the keyboard, it just fit superb. It's like it's melting together.
Maurizio Meo, is the man of the low notes, a swinging bass player which is the finishing touch of the band. Passionated and friendly on stage, lovely to watch these 4 man playing.

During this support act, RanestRane were presenting their latest album, A Space Odyssey part one, based at the same named movie. There will be 3 parts to make the movie complete. I've never seen the movie, will do that though, as you will understand the music much better! As a Marillion fan I recognized the voice, which you will hear at this album. Steve Hogarth is a support vocal on this album. It's actually a 'telling' voice which gives the album an another dimention, an another level but I was not thinking: 'wish he did more' It was enough. And for me that's just so fantastic with RanestRane, everything is just enough! Also Steven Rothery plays on this album as support guitarist.
Actually not really needed in my opinion, but for perhaps an extra sound, it's fantastic.

My first impression? I want to see and hear more of this band! And so I did! RanestRane were also playing during the Marillion Weekend 2015 at Port Zelande the Netherlands. And again, they amazed me with their music. A true love for this band is growing. To be continued....
